New Years Eve
People in many parts of the country are wondering what happened to winter. Not so here, in Flagstaff winter is alive and well.
Flagstaff abounds outdoor winter activities. There's skiing at Snowbowl, cross country skiing at the Flagstaff Nordic Center. Sledding at Wing Mountain recreation area, and sledding at nearby Crowley Pit. You can ice skate at Jay Lively Arena in Flagstaff and show shoe at a variety of great locations.
For Those wishing to celebrate New Years Eve Flagstaff has its own unique event. The annual Pine Cone Drop at the Weatherford Hotel in downtown Flagstaff. The Pine Cone is a huge silver replica of a pine cone with hundreds of lights. There are two drops, the first one for the early to bed folks and kids at 10:00 PM in sync with the big Ball drop at Times Square in New York and the second drop at 12:00 midnight local time. People fill the streets below to share in the revelry.
