Our Roadtrip

B&B owners take a break

Our Roadtrip
Here is a photo of the Bottle House in Goldfield Nevada. The Bottle house is over 100 years old and was constructed during the heyday of Goldfields boom. The main gold boom ran from the early 1900's until 1910 when it was the largest city in Nevada at 20,000. Today, just 270 souls call it home. the Bottle House is made...

Fall in Flagstaff

Cooler days ahead

Fall in Flagstaff
Great fall hiking weather awaits you here in Flagstaff. Our cool days and chilly nights are great for outdoor adventures. WE have had over two months of almost no precipitation so things are very dry in the woods. We have a number of nights available in December so give us a call. Shopping here in Flagstaff can be a...

Take A hike in Flagstaff's Buffalo Park

More rushing water

Take A hike in Flagstaff's Buffalo Park
Here is another look at the racing waters in Buffalo Park. Little Mia was fascinated by the sight and sounds ( and no doubt smells) of the gurgling brook. Much of the year this is dry so its pretty cool to see it running. We may get a bit of snow By Monday but as of now it seems uncertain.

Snow on the Flagstaff Peaks

First storm of the season

Snow on the Flagstaff Peaks
Here's Jim Cantore checking out the snow atop Agassiz Peak. If he were up there today he'd have a lot more snow to check out. Our first storm of the winter season has coated the peaks white. with up to 14 inches of fresh powder, He would also be in need of some very warm clothes. Skiers planing a trip to Arizona...

Flagstaff Farmers

Sunny & mmild fall weather

Flagstaff Farmers
Check out this winter squash from the Elden Trails Dark Side of the Moon garden. This baby is 15 inches tall and weighs in at 10 lbs. There is one more squash of a similar size still in the garden. Last night we enjoyed some corn from the garden. Our wind battered garden is recovering from the blustery conditions. The...

Flagstaff's Fascinating Forests

Fall comes to northern Arizona

Flagstaff's Fascinating Forests
Now is this a strange tree or what? Perhaps an old lightning strike and the bottom portion survived? We've been observing this odd tree for over 12 years; somehow it lives on. It looks like eventually the rotten portion of the supporting hulk will collapse and despite the living bark that clings to it that will probably...

Flagstaff Evenings

More great sunsets

Flagstaff Evenings
Two pink sky nights in a row! Man, do we ever have the amazing sunsets! This photo is from the lower east slopes of Mt. Elden looking south. We just had a cancellation for next week so if you'd like to enjoy some of these scintillating sunsets give us a call. You could be sitting on the Elden Trails patio sipping a...

Excellent Arizona Sunsets

Early evening skies a delight

Excellent Arizona Sunsets
The past few days we have experienced some amazing pink skies after sundown. Last night there were bands of pink from crossing the entire visible sky. This view is from about 3oo yards up the slope from Elden Trails Bed and Breakfast. Our weather is ideal for hiking. Early fall is a great time to be here and enjoy...

More on the Mt Elden Crevice

Rugged terrain but rewarding

More on the Mt Elden Crevice
The Crevice hike/climb is like no other in this area. You enjoy the sense of being somewhere that few people dare to venture. This is not a route that should be attempted by one person alone. The Mt. Elden Lookout trail o0n the other hand is suitable for a single person as there are almost always other people on the...

More Great Flagstaff Hikes

The Crevice on Mt. Elden

More Great Flagstaff Hikes
This is not a trail for the faint of heart. In fact its not really a trail at all. The Crevice is a gigantic tear on the south side of Mt. Elden It is quite visible from many locations around town. The route is steep with much scrambling over large boulders and foraging through dense brush. The center of the...

Flagstaff Gardening

Elden Trails B&B garden looks good

Flagstaff Gardening
Check out his giant winter squash from the ET Dark Side of the Moon garden. There is another one of almost the same size on this plant. This squash is 13 inches tall & still growing! So far its been a good season for beans as we have already harvested a good many. The corn looks promising with about 20 ears developing...

Elden Trails B&B Pond

A healthy pond

Elden Trails B&B Pond
A healthy pond in a happy garden. That's what we strive for and this summer I believe we have reached our goal. The only thing needed now is more fish in the water! Our recently installed racoon prevention system seems to be working well. The rocking bench next to the pond is a great place to relax and contemplate.

What Our Guests Are Saying

  • "I stayed at Elden Trails in September 2013 for three nights before joining a Grand Canyon hiking tour. It was a beautiful spot, with great access to hiking trails and very close to downtown Flagstaff. The cabin is spacious, comfortable, and very quiet. Breakfast was absolutely delicious and I really enjoyed the company & conversation each morning. Thanks Steve & Marnie for being great hosts!"

  • "I stayed here with my girlfriend and her sister last month. It couldn't have been better. Although its a few miles from town, it is right at the heart of great hiking trails. Its set back in a quiet neighborhood which was very nice. The room is very cute and clean. The food was the best part. Breakfast was hearty and healthy. The owners are very kind."

  • "This is our first full summer in AZ and we wanted to get out of the heat of Phoenix. Flagstaff fit the bill and Elden Trails made us glad we came. The innkeepers are very interesting and friendly and the breakfast is delicious. Great hiking and fun historic downtown area."

  • "A great experience in bed and breakfasting! The food is healthful and delicious. The ambiance reflects the good taste and congeniality of the innkeepers. Comfort and attention to detail are evident everywhere. Will we stay there again? Emphatically yes! We have already made reservations for our next stay in Flagstaff."

  • "Steve and Marney were wonderful hosts and our room was cosy and comfortable. Breakfast was special with everything organic and home made. Walks and wildlife were just out the window and back gate. It was great talking with Steve and Marney over breakfast, they were genuine and engaging hosts. I would recommend this B&B."

  • "Steve and Marnie are exceptional hosts in an industry (B&Bs) that has attracted too many people who are merely interested in revenues. It is obvious that they have captured the spirit of hospitality that guided B&B's previously. It shows in the lodgings, the food, and their level of helpfulness."

  • "Even though the weather was freezing and it was snowing the hospitality of Steve and Marnie made our stay warm and friendly. They went the extra mile to make sure our stay was comfortable and easy. The convenience to hiking trails was a nice surprise and the breakfasts....well, that's a reason to return all on its own. A big thank you for making our time in Flagstaff wonderful."

  • "We spent a quiet night in the private suite at Elden Trails. It is attractively decorated (not frou-frou) and comfortable. Our host delivered fresh coffee at our requested time first thing in the morning. The breakfast was delicious, all made from scratch. The fresh egg layers live on site. Out the back gate we had a snowy walk in the woods at the base of Mt. Elden."

  • "We stayed for 2 nights and the experience was memorable. Steve and Marnie were exemplary. The place was spacious, elegant and comfortable. Our breakfast was amazing and should be experienced by everyone. Healthiest breakfast ever. The garden was spectacular and optimized. The best was the bonding with the whole family. Truly beautiful and authentic."

  • "Steve and Marnie are exceptional hosts; very solicitous and friendly. The breakfasts were amazing and healthy. The room is very comfortable and cozy with a separate bedroom, roomy living space and nice bathroom. There is a little frig, hot water pot and filtered water. A microwave would have made the room just perfect. Great place to stay!"

  • "We had a splendid one night stay at Elden Trails B&B. The studio suite is comfy and quiet with forest trails directly behind the suite with a variety of hiking options. Marnie and Steve are gracious hosts and helped us with dinner and entertainment options in Flagstaff. We can't say enough about how wonderful the breakfast was. We requested a vegan breakfast and it far exceeded our expectations. Plenty of variety and it was very tasty."

  • "This B&B is great! We loved the home like feel of the cottage. The attention to detail, the delightful patio, fabulous breakfast and the hospitality of our hosts make this Bed and Breakfast one we will return to each time we head West."

  • "I stayed 4 nights when on a recent personal retreat. The food was awesome and Marnie packed a breakfast for me for the day I left at 6am. The location was exactly what I was looking for - quiet, access to gorgeous trails and hosts that were most helpful with information. Looking forward to returning there again."

  • "Great examples and advocates for sustainable living. This cute studio bed and breakfast provided the quiet night that we needed, unique touches everywhere. Would have enjoyed softer sheets but over all comfortable experience. Owners were great hosts as the left a key and warmed the studio since we were late arrivals. The property backs up to a national forest for our beloved four-legged friends to run free. The most mention-able part of our experience was the breakfast. It was healthy, wholesome and organic. We ate eggs laid that morning from the chickens right outside the studio."
